Plastic is lighter and cheaper but can yellow or become brittle after a few years, especially if there’s any moisture. Metal-frame ones with a metal or reinforced door last longer and feel more premium. I installed one in my laundry about 18 months ago and it still looks brand new – no warping, strong magnetic closure, easy to open when I need to check the valves: https://www.amazon.com/Access-Panel-Drywall-Plumbing-Durable/dp/B085617TBL?tag=contractorhub-20 The frame sits flush and painting it to match the wall makes it almost invisible. For humid spots I’d definitely pick this style over basic plastic.
